Meet the Team

Our team brings together expertise in neuroscience, molecular biology, and diagnostic research. Together, we are working to better understand the biological mechanisms behind unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms and their links to neurodegenerative disease.

Dr. Sergio Dall’Angelo, PhD , Lecturer

Sergio’s research focuses on designing and synthesising peptides, peptidomimetics, and small molecules to study biological mechanisms and develop potential therapeutic or diagnostic agents. He also works on developing and repurposing PET radiotracers to improve molecular imaging and identify new diagnostic applications.

Prof. Jenna Gregory BSc Hons PhD MB BChir (Cantab.) MSc MMedSc FRCPath – PI: Clinical Professor, Consultant Histopathologist & Clinical Lead for NHS Grampian Biorepository/Tissue Bank

Jenna’s research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, particularly ALS. Her work studies patient tissue to identify molecular differences linked to disease progression, symptoms, and cognitive involvement, with the aim of improving diagnosis, monitoring, and future therapeutic development.

Dr. Holly Spence MSci Hons PhD – MNDA Non-Clinical Fellow

Holly’s research focuses on the role of metal dysregulation and oxidative stress in ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases. Her work uses brain imaging, immunohistochemistry, and metabolomics to identify ALS subtypes and support precision medicine approaches for improved diagnosis, personalised therapies, and better clinical trial design.
